Fattoria di Castiglionchio, Rignano sull'Arno

Immersed in the hills South-East of Florence lies the old Fattoria di Castiglionchio. The main buildings are still preserved from the 12th century, where the farm was built. Many illustrious owners have passed by and done wine here. But the modern Fattoria is not only a good producer of wines, but even try to tell about the old traditions through their excellent rural museum.
The Castiglionchio wines are all made of own grapes being harvested on the 44 hectares of vineyards belonging to the estate, giving a total production of almost 260.000 bottles. The main grapes are local, Malvasia and Trebbiano for the white wine and Sangiovese and Canaiolo for the reds. Of the wines special attention should be given to the Chianti Colli Fiorentini Riserva DOCG. Using the best grapes and aging no less than 4 years on oak barrels allow Castiglionchio to present a well made wine full of character and bouquet, excellent as partner of typical Tuscan meat dishes.
